Dog mom who was taken to the shelter during labor complications loses all 21 of her puppies
Someone left a pregnant dog mom at the Boone Area Humane Society after she was in labor for 24 hours, ilovemydogsomuch writes
She had an emergency C-section and suffered two cardiac arrests after the operation, but fortunately she was stabilized. She received a blood transfusion and was closely monitored in the intensive care unit at Iowa State University’s College of Vet Med.
“The vets at ISU also told us that this girl is an older dog and has had multiple litters of puppies in the past,” the Boone Area Humane Society wrote on Facebook.
“She was meant to enjoy her golden years, instead she was bred and then disposed of when she had trouble with her labour.”
The dog mom, now called Ruthie, is doing better and better, eating on her own and getting up to go outside. She has a very loving nature and has since left the hospital to live with her new foster family where she will continue her recovery.
Meanwhile, the Humane Society is doing everything it can to bring charges against the person who made Ruthie suffer, but they say it’s always an uphill battle due to Iowa’s weak animal welfare laws.
